Pigeon Trouble

Post  Moderator on Thu Aug 02, 2012 12:09 am

For the last three days I've had a racing Pigeon living in my garden, it has a tag on each leg and at first I thought it was just resting after a long journey and taking advantage of the wild bird feed I put out but it's still here and hasn't left the garden.

I spoke to a friend who use to keep them and said you can contact the owner by checking for a tattoo under the wing but it would be more than likey that they wouldn't want it back because it's no longer a 'good Pigeon' because it's lost and can't find it's way back home and if they did collect it they would probably ring it's neck Shocked

So I've just left the Pigeon as it's not doing any harm and it's quite nice to have a tame bird in the garden but now there's another Pigeon with tags that's been there all day with the other one, sleeping next to the Chicken coop and occasionally getting up to eat.

My indoor pet Cat loves them, probably thinking 'Lunch Time' though Smile

Have you ever seen the Alfred Hitchcock film Birds? You'll look out in the morning and there will be 5 then 10 then before you know it you'll be fighting your way out into the garden to feed the chickens

Once I 'survived" to a crows attack. Definetly they should be hire me as a extra for a posible
"the Birds" sequel. I just wanted to help a little baby crow fallen from some tree. A second later hundreds of crows started to make terrible noise and some of them were flying in the most threatening way just above my head. Nasty feeling....

They are really intelligent birds even if they are really nasty to other birds (and people lol) We are over run with the things here and they eat the baby ducks Sad

Other "interesting" creatures are the seagulls . They often use to steal stuff from our hotel balcony while we were at the seaside. They are some kinda socks eaters I guess. Or at least collectors.

I was talking about Crows the other week, they are thought to be one of the most intelligent animals in the world because they can use and MAKE tools Shocked

There was a British programme on years ago about Rooks (Crow Family) at a service station in Membury and they had figured that by clawing up the bin liner in the bin little by little while holding onto it, that they could bring the food to them.

I've heard stories about them befriended humans too, cunning little buggers Very Happy

Also crows throw stuff like nuts and acorns from the air to crack the shell and be able to eat them. Interesting that they throw those things only on bitumen or rocky areas not on grass or greensward.

It's all crazy stuff, I can't remember how much it is but we only use a small percentage of our brain so the capabilities could be astonishing, maybe that just comes with evolution but I find it quite interesting. I'm still waiting for my telepathy to kick in lol!
