Musicians Set To Rock Olympics Opening Ceremony
London 2012 is finally upon us and we're all very excited about seeing the Opening Ceremony gig that's being held on Friday at the Olympic Park to mark the start of the historical event that's set to continue throughout the summer. Who's excited??
The musical line-up will see acts from all four host nations of the UK, with Duran Duran representing England, Snow Patrol representing Northern Ireland, Stereophonics representing Wales, and Paolo Nutini representing Scotland.
Simon Le Bon, lead singer of Duran Duran, said of the eagerly-anticipated, "Performing to so many people on the most exciting day in sport for Great Britain will be one of the highlights of the last decade for us. We have been invited to represent England for this Team GB show, and we couldn't be more proud. Seeing the torch being lit on the big screens before hitting the stage in this iconic location will be a great experience... we simply can't wait."
Paul McCartney has also confirmed that he'll be performing at the massive London event. Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live Drive, he ended the speculation and said "I've been booked" and added that he would be "closing the opening".
He also admitted that "on certain occasions" he still gets nerves before performing.
And with an estimated worldwide audience of four billion people, Paul's definitely going to be feeling the nerves on Friday night!
Where will you be watching the opening ceremony?

Clearly, Lord (Sebastian) Coe used to "groove" to them "back in the day".

I was wondering if any of you were getting excited about the Olympics? I'm not too much of a sports fan, but I'll pick up on some of it. Must be a large influx of tourists for you, and it will probably get pretty crazy near the events.

Bored to death with it already. Im not a sports fan either and every day for the past few weeks they've been having a build up on tv. I'll probably watch the opening thing and the closing thing and if we start to get good at anything I may watch it.
It's the only time for donkies years I havent wished to be back in London. Infact my sister still lives there and she says she's staying indoors and her husband has gone off back to Scotland for a few weeks

Now that is what we call a "fair weather fan".. (me too)
I bet it is a big pain in the rear, if you are not into it.
But, maybe people will be spending enough to cover all the expense to host it, and bring some extra cash to the economy. Something needs to give a little push. I don't know how it is there, but most everything is still very slow here.... at least were I live.

I probably won't watch all the opening ceremony - but I'll watch many of the events, especially the athletics.

Re: Musicians Set To Rock Olympics Opening Ceremony
I actually enjoyed the opening ceremony. Im not too sure how many people from outside the UK could follow it all because it was made up of a lot of our history but there was a fair bit of British humour thrown in too.
I watched the BBC news very late last night when they interviewed Chinese sports journalist Yan Qiang from Beijing and he said very seriously 'The Queen, even at her age, can still dive from the sky'. I have never heard background laugher on the BBC News before

What??
Is this another of those "lost in translation" things? Like "I never passed by the monkey" ? Yikes!!

Theres no way they'd ever make the Queen jump out of a helicopter she far too royal for that. They used a double and it was almost comical watching her dress floating around like that
Re: Musicians Set To Rock Olympics Opening Ceremony
I didn't see it so I just thought it was another one of those translation issues.

Never mind about being too royal - she's 86 years old!

That's pretty funny. I saw a short clip on youtube, but it was poor quality, did like the music with it.
I have to hand it to you about your Queen, she is very hardy. She probably could do the jump if she wanted.
The Queen Mother was amazing! There is a lot of longevity there, on the female side, for sure.

Actually, I did hear her say that.bryan1 wrote:

I would probably have liked them if they had been around when I was about ten too!
I really shouldn't say, I've never listened to them enough to form an opinion.... other than I know they are nice to look at.
