13-year-old builds a NUCLEAR FUSION REACTOR

Post  bryan1 on Thu Mar 06, 2014 10:31 am

'I made a star in a jar': 13-year-old becomes youngest person in the world to build a NUCLEAR FUSION REACTOR

Jamie Edwards' reactor was able to smash two hydrogen atoms together
This made him youngest person to create helium through nuclear fusion
Fusion took place in a controlled environment at his school in Lancashire
Head teacher Jim Hourigan said: ‘I was a little nervous when Jamie suggested this but he reassured me he wouldn’t blow the school up'

That's great! Is that a public or private school? Regardless, hats off to the staff that supported him.

Public - in the American sense that is!  In the U.K private schools are called public schools. Very Happy The school he attends is a state school.  Cool

(For his next project, Jamie – who wants to be a nuclear engineer or work in theoretical physics – has his sights set on building a miniature hadron collider.)
