Re: The Album - Water for Your Soul
I went for the basic and delux CDs and I'm thinking about vinyl. Loving the album and have mostly enjoyed playing Star, Let Mr Breathe and Cut The Line. I read a disappointing review in The Observer over the weekend though and am hoping the reviewer is way off the mark with their observations; in summary they talk about the UK reaction to Joss's accent in the early days and how her take on reggae is going to cause her similar problems. Speaking as someone who loves much of Bob Marley's music and who has enjoyed hearing many other reggae musicians over the years, I have been hearing Joss's foray in to this genre as totally appropriate and perhaps as a tribute and a number of great singers have tried different styles for all sorts of reasons and not sounded as good. On reading this review I began to doubt my judgement, hearing Russell Crowe's 'You've got dead ears mate!' running through my brain. But on reflection, I think my ears are just fine. I hear authenticity in what Joss does and I think a lot of what is often enjoyed can be produced in ways that leave the resulting music ultimately empty and disposable. That's how I feel and it'll be great if some of the songs here are as well received as I think they should be.

It matters not what this reviewer says - the Guardian/Observer always give her bad reviews. Anybody still referring to the 2007 Brits is clearly a Kn*b! If Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson and the late James Brown rate her that's good enough for me!! Wonder how this album is being received in the West Indies??

Well said I don't know where to check out the Caribbean reception, so will do some searching when I get in to work as currently running horribly late. Have a lovely day!

I believe Damien Marley had a hand in the reggae side of the album. I think being the son of the late great Bob he has ever so slightly more idea than the twonk wot wrote that article !

I understand what you're saying but I do love a good review and some serious public response to one or more songs in the form of a Joss loving social media buzz or increasing purchases etc. I guess Joss can't please everyone?
